Meet the M's
Marge Sorge, the founding M in M3 has an extensive background in the automotive industry as a corporate executive, journalist, and consultant. She has served as Vice President of Corporate Communications for Metaldyne Corp. and as Director of Corporate Communications for Visteon Corporation. She also served as Executive on Loan from that company to Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm and the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth and currently chairs Michigan's Council on Labor and Economic Growth. Marge spent 23 years as an automotive journalist. She has been Editor-in-Chief of Automotive Industries magazine, Executive Editor of Ward’s Auto World, Labor and Feature Editor at Automotive News and a staff writer at The Detroit News. During her career in journalism she as covered all areas of the auto industry including the board of directors, financial, labor negotiations, new products, manufacturing and new business trends and the environment. She also provided the auto reports to WJR radio and covered the auto industry as a stringer for Reuter’s news service. She currently serves on the boards of Kettering University, the Society of Automotive Analysts, the Automotive Press Association and Forgotten Harvest of SE Michigan and is on the Advisory Panel for Automotive Hall of Fame. She and husband Ed Lapham have three sons, the best dog in the world and live in Livonia. APR, has broad public relations, communications and media experience. She served as the Director of Media and Public Relations for the Department of Labor and Economic Growth (DLEG). At DLEG, Maura was an integral part of the leadership team as well as the department’s spokesman.She is an accredited public relations professional and is a member of the Detroit Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. She has won several public relations awards as well as three Telly awards for the Consumer’s Corner cable television program that she created. She served as Communications Director for three Michigan departments of government, Director of Marketing for the Michigan Jobs Commission, Deputy Press Secretary for former Governor John Engler, and Communications Director for the Colorado Secretary of State. She was also the Communications Director for a Colorado-based think tank and has managed several successful political campaigns. Currently, she is finishing her Master’s degree in Communications Management from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. Originally from Denver, Colorado, she recently moved from East Lansing to the Detroit area with her husband Duncan, three children and four-pawed crew. has worked in government, non-profits, and for-profit firms for over 25 years. Marti worked for the State of Michigan where she developed and managed industry focused technical assistance and training grant programs. This included shaping the communications strategy for the state to Michigan’s business and industry as well as for economic development. She was the human resources/training Program Manager at the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS), a consortium of 200 manufacturing firms. This included extensive work in performance improvement, web-based training and broadcasting communications. After NCMS, Marti worked for the MMTC, Michigan’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership center, providing instructional design, training and performance improvement to a range of manufacturing firms from the very small all the way to General Motors. Recently, she has served provided extensive assistance to state and local governments and industry associations in the development and communication of strategic plans for the future. She attended the University of Michigan earning both bachelors and master’s degrees. Marti lives in U of M Wolverine Territory in the town of Dexter, Michigan.
